1789: Whiskey distilled from corn is first produced by the Reverend Elijah Craig. It is called Bourbon because Reverend Craig lived in Bourbon County, Kentucky.1906: Margaret Bourke White, photojournalist, is born.
1909: Burl Ives is born. Here's "Little Bitty Tear" which was always one of my favorites. I'm not quite sure what's going on in the video. I figure the guy working the camera broke up with the girl (who is clearly not following the Motorcycle Safety Foundation rules) and this his way of working it out.1919: Sam Wanamaker is born. He's been a working actor for years, but these days he's best known for being the spearhead in the rebuilding of Shakespeare's Globe Theater in London.

1946: Donald Trump is born. He's rich, but unloved.
1949: Harry Turtledove is born. He is securely nestled in the alternate history genre. The first two or three books of any of his series are good, but soon you will feel like you're wasting your time. Make sure you skip over any of his sex scenes too, unless you have a fetish for overly clinical descriptions that border on the grotesque.

1952: The keel is laid for the nuclear submarine USS Nautilus.
1954: President Eisenhower signs a bill that places the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.1961: Boy George is born. This video makes no sense. Why is Boy George in the Reconstruction South? Is this a Harry Turtledove-esque alternate time line where Boy George prevents the military government of Mississippi from peacefully handing over power to the civilian government? It's maddening!
1982: Argentine forces surrender to British forces during the Falkland Islands dispute.
Today in History elements mostly cribbed from The History Channel, Wikipedia, The New York Times, The Jewish World Review, The Writer's Almanac and anything else I can dig up
