1356: Edward Balliol abdicates as King of Scotland. He reigned simultaneously with King David II and never enjoyed much support. It didn't help that he was playing footsie with the English during one of England's frequent "Let's beat on Scotland!" phases which most Scots found to be pretty irritating.
